The garage is the most popular spot for a reason

Across the KC metro, the garage floor is where most in-ground units end up. It is central, it is under roof so you are not running outside in the weather, and the concrete slab is easy to cut and set a unit into. You lift a hatch, step down, and you are protected. Basements: great if you have one

Whatever room or corner you are looking at, I judge it on a few simple things. Can everyone in the house reach it in under a minute? Is the path clear and lit? Is it away from exterior walls and big windows? Will it stay dry, since the last thing you want is a shelter that holds water after a storm?
